In blogging, a ping can be defined as an XML-RPC-based push notification system where a weblog notifies the server that its content has been modified. An XML-RPC sign is delivered from the weblog to 1 or even more “Ping Server(s)” to inform a set of their “Services” of new content on the blog.
The Ping Server may notify numerous services when it is pinged, for example:
- Search Engines
- Web Directories
- News Websites
- Feed Websites
- and Many More.
So I hope may of you noticed that WordPress.org has its own ping update service which can be found in the dashboard at Setting > Writing administration screen of your WordPress installation.
When you write a post and update your blog’s content WordPress automatically notifies some servers about your newly updated content via its ping update services. To get the maximum amount of benefit you should “Update Ping Services List on Your WordPress Dashboard”
